Donald Trump has selected Paula White to lead the White House “faith office”. This is a woman who is widely rejected by people of faith, is a televangelist who speaks in tongues, and has been called a “false teacher” by a lot of other religious leaders.
In an era when we have seen movements aimed at “purifying” America, meaning to reduce diversity, immigration, equal rights and the pursuit of happiness, how long will it be before Trump declares only one official religion is allowed in our country? What kind of rounding up and incarcerating will be applied to those who espouse the wrong religion, or no religion. How long before we see India-style persecution of those who follow a different faith. It’s not hard for Americans to imagine deporting Muslims. But how about Buddhists? Maybe a lot of Americans think that is alright too? But what about Seventh Day Adventists? Will Trump deport Tom Cruise and other Scientologists? Or if there are too many Baptists voting Democratic, will Trump declare the Baptist religions illegal? Will this administration start rounding up people accused of being atheists? Even without evidence? Will the State of Texas start offering rewards to those who “turn in” people with the wrong religion?
We have seen all of the above strategies run out against minorities and immigrants by this administration. What if all these actions are just experiments by Trump, the oligarchs and MAGA types to see how much they can get away with? Folks, I think you can see for yourselves that no one is safe in a country where a dictator NEEDS to identify “enemies” in order to keep his base mobilized and deactivated. One can imagine that such a dictator will take up one witch hunt after another in an endless series in order to justify his control and domination of the country.
People in this country, those that are not frothing extremists, need to forget party politics for awhile and band together to dismiss this administration and get our democracy back into proper working order. We can always argue about policies later, if we still have a democracy. But with a dictator in power, there is no scope for the people to have political preferences or political influence of any kind.
@Joan. Of course every little country church is somebody's meal ticket. Free house, free food, free money, all on the backs of the congregation. Even worse, televangelists like Paula White make exorbitant and ethically disgusting amounts of money. So yeah, shouldn't tell people what to do, but definitely should tax religious organizations and tax their operators for their income.
White is another religious nutcase, a complete wastrel! Why people have faith in little fairies in the sky, or the wise old man who watches over his flock from the skies above is delusional! Exceptional post Benjamin!!
