The strongest reason that AG Garland must see to the prosecution of Trump is precisely because no previous president has been convicted. Even the holder of the highest office in the land must not be of the opinion that the laws of the United States do not pertain to his/her actions. The only way to ensure that future holders of this office uphold their oath to protect the Constitution and to see that the laws of the land are faithfully executed is to hold all former and current holders of the office accountable for crimes. Trump has already been proven guilty (Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election) while a candidate and while holding office. He has been accused on good cause for many other crimes while in office, and more information about his crimes as a candidate is now a matter of public record. Worse, there is good, ample and credible information that this person attempted to prevent a legitimate act of the Congress of the United States, which is itself a high crime. Garland must see to it that this person is held accountable and that no future holder of the highest office can come to the opinion that his/her actions are above the law.
